Inland Snook Report

Haven't heard a lot of chatter about the open of Snook Season Feb. 1st. For me its been slow, I've tried all my normal spots with no luck so I changed stratigies started to fish inland. Not much to report lost two one way oversized slob in New River and one at the Dania cutoff lock. I would love to hear if anyone else has had any luck.

If you're planning on keeping snook, yes you do need to make sure your stamp is up to date. Gonna try to hit up a couple of ICW spots late this afternoon before the wind gets too bad. Hopefully I have some stuff to post and my cooler won't be empty.

Caught one way undersized, LOL west of University on the Griffin Canal, but yes very slow.

lost a nice snook on the bridge on atlantic, had a kink in my braid i think, but haven't had any other action since then. I was using free lined shrimp. i could use some rod choice tips though i was using a penn firece 4000, with 20lb braid tied to a 25 lb mono leader. and a 2/0 owner live bait hook. any advice out there ?

I never use anything under 30lb leader.. You might hook up with more fish, but at the same time you'll lose more and to me that's a waste of leader and hooks. Especially fishing structure, you need a little bit more muscle to keep them from getting hung up or fraying up leader or line (braid gets expensive).. structure, their mouths, and their sharp gill plates will make short work or your 20lb leader. Also, if free-lining, don't forget: no swivel and your albright knot from line to leader. Easy and effective. 2/0 live bait hooks work fine though I like using bigger live shrimp so I'll use 3/0. Everyone has variations on how to's and might have different thoughts but eventually with time you'll pick and choose and tailor what works best for you. Hope this helps. Good luck.

great advice i appreciate your comments,what do you thiink about the bait choice, i swam i shrimp by the snook i seen patroling the light an no hits looked at it but never took the bait, any tricks to get them to bite?or different bait choice?
