Anglers night fishing

Post by bellhorn »

Well Santa must have thought I was a good boy this year. I got a Penn battle 4000 reel and a 7' Ugly Stik big water spinning rod. I went and got it filled with 30lb braided Power Pro line yesterday, and decided to give it a shot last night. I was there from 8-11pm and did not have one bite. I kept to the sand area around the middle covered area. A bit disappointing as the tide was coming in pretty strong and I figured it would bring in some hungry fish.

I talked to a few people out there and they mentioned it was an unusually dead night. I was just using frozen squid, but most people were using cuts of live fish. Nothing seemed to be working last night, but I don't want to be discouraged from one bad night; this is fishing not catching :)

If anyone could offer any advice for night fishing I would greatly appreciate it. When I fish during the day I catch blue runners on the squid, should I keep the blue runners and cut them up for fresh bait?

Oh, I also finally found the entrance to the pier parking but they wanted $10 to park. What is that all about?!?!?

The bite has been more active earlier in the evening on the West coast. I head out around 4:30 in order to catch the sunset bites. I have only used live bait. Pins & Grunts just off the bottom...free-line shrimp.
I totally agree with jettypark28. Use what the locals are using for best results.
Best of luck with that new rod & reel.

X2 on everything Jetty said including paying the $10 for parking all day. Until he mentioned that in another post my 'fishing zen' was always interrupted from time to time wondering if my ride was towed from the lot behind the gas station at the end of Commercial or if I picked up a $40 ticket because I'm having too much fun to stop and feed a meter. All good advice.

If u go after 11pm parking is free.... Squid will catch u grunts... Cut bait works better than squid over there sometimes . Live shrimp is great for snappers out there.. Try and catch some goggle eyes that's excellent bait... (Crappy jig) :toast:

Yes but his title reads anglers.... I see no where that he mentions Anglins.

Lots of people think it's called Anglers when of course it's Anglins. Simple mistake
