lots of small kingfish
I guess its that time of year again,,, you must make sure you are not taking juvenile kingfish ,, there are alot of them around ,,thats all I caught Monday morning,,, they look alot like spanish mackeral but have more spots and the lateral line is different.. you can get fined if caught with the young kingfish

Cool, learning something new everyday!Rijkaard wrote:yes they do, probably at 20" they don't have them anymore, not juvi enough...btw a foulproof test is the dorsal fin, spanish macks have it pitch black, small kings have it clearer/light grayishPoseidon10/31 wrote:Juvenile kingfish have spot patterns like a spanish? I could see mixing up cero and spanish, but kings??? I caught a 20" or so king, looked nothing like a spanish...

Re: lots of small kingfish
There is a slight color difference to the spots and fin tips, but dont use that solely as both change w age and water color. The big tell is the radical dip in lateral line on Snake Kings as opposed to the more gentle curse on the Sp Mac....

Not that the incompetent "wildlife" officers would know the difference anyways.
There were tons of snakes being caught at haulover yesterday...
