Hillsboro/Port Everglades Report

Arrive at hillsboro inlet park at about 10:00pm. Decide that the current isnt moving enough, waste an hour or so staring at the passing boats. Finally, under the bridge, incoming tide...tons of mullet, by the thousands. netted about 20-30 and met some cool dudes. my net has a hole in it, and i see these guys dont know how to throw their net, i ask can i borrow your net, ill give you lots of bait. borrow the net and fill their bucket up as well. i say to them well nothings busting on these mullet, so lets go soak these somewhere else. They ask, do you know how to get to the north jettie at port everglades. i say i know a spot thats near there thats even better. they follow me to the north side sea wall. i throw in a mullet on a 1oz weight. BOOM, get a tarpon and hes a jumper. within five mins of ariving, i catch and lose a 50-60lb tarpon. in all the excitement, i forget to relieve the tension when he jumps and he spit the hook about 3 or so feet from me. next, one of the guys i was with catches about a 15-20lb cuda and it looked like fun, i was so excited, i thought it was a kingfish. after that a nice ladyfish was caught, as well as 3-4 undersized mangroves and 1 mutton. all in all a good night. met some cool people and hooked a few fish, my first port everglades tarpon as amatter of fact and had a great time fishing and talking most boaters say PE is fished out, but that easy to say when you drive right passed the fish.
