Groupers off Piers

Is this even possible? I like to go to Dania/Anglins and wanted to know if there are any tips to targeting groupers off piers (if it is even possible).

Also, if anyone has any advice on lures. I have a Spook and Rapala top water and was wondering if those work well off piers and any advice if they do.

Grouper have not been seen in the past ten years or so in that pier. Good luck buddy

Yeah, one is caught every once in a while, but pretty rare these days. Even more unlikely, though, is that it will be of legal size.

It would have to be a fish in transition or following bait most likely at night. Keep something good out by the reef.
I would target the fish that have seasonal runs through the area. Plenty of good eating fish pass by. Use the same type of gear you see others doing good with if you can afford either new or start with used. Then fish fish fish.

I remember a few years back on Dania this guy hooked a monster grouper and as it came close the grouper stopped fighting and he was reeling in dead weight, when he brought it in we all found out it got sharked! he reeled in a mangled up mess, I felt bad for him cause judging by the size of the head it was a really nice grouper

A nice size live bait (blue runner, grunt, pinfish) 6"-8" straight down next to the pilons at slack tide at some of the keys bridges (the deeper ones preferrably) should do the trick. Make sure you have some heavy tackle at minimum 40lb main and 60lb leader on a 4/0 sized reel and some patience There can be some big boys down there. Hope this helps.
