This may seem like a dumb question, but...
I have heard people talk about switching spools or switching reels when a shark is about to completely empty their spool. How exactly is this transfer completed?

For some reason its not letting me just search his posts or threads. The member name was
"Team Shark Fever"
Here is one of his threads but I didnt see it mentioned in this one.

The one that I saw mentioned was about a bull shark that they fought with 2 or 3 jigmasters...
The shark ended up getting hung up and they had to go in the water to get it. It was one awesome story but I cant find it.
Basically what he mentioned was getting and hand lining enough slack on the line and then having someone tie into it with another reel.

Re: Reel to Reel Transfers?
Thanks Cuban... Yeah I read that one before. Basically, I can fathom getting a second line attached. But I cannot understand this part of the equation...
Let's say you have a reel with 500 yards of line on it and it's about to get spooled. I can think of a number of ways to attach more line (though I am sure someone has an easier process with less headaches). So let's say you somehow attach another 500 yard spool of line to your main line. Now you have a fish attached to 1000 yds of line. Now the question is how the heck do you get it in? Yes, you have all that line to play with, but you still have a reel that may only hold 600 max yards and 1000 yds of line to reel in.
Keep the ideas coming if you got em!

Re: Reel to Reel Transfers?
Here is one way I have heard of. When you are originally filling your reel, tie a loop in the line about 25-50 yards from the beginning. When you need to tie in, wait until the loop clears the rod tip, and either use a heavy duty snap swivel or tie in to the loop with the backup reel and cut the old line. Then, when you are gaining line, untie the backup reel from the loop and tie the original reel back to it. Let me know if this makes sense, it was kind of hard to explain typing.

Re: Reel to Reel Transfers?
Hammy, I found the story. It was a hammer head hooked with a jigmaster and landed with a 4/0 on 30lb test.

Re: Reel to Reel Transfers?
Looks like the original reel must be of smaller capacity than the back up reel. This way you can regain the original line and then some onto the higher capacity reel thats taking on the second shift of the fight.Hammy4260 wrote:Thanks Cuban... Yeah I read that one before.
