Well if you get caught in the reef,your screwed.I wouldn't fish this rig were there is allot of reef.

Yes the swivel will hold its place when reeling in a fish.

No you are not. If you tie a big swivel to your mainline then tie a smaller breakaway line of lighter diameter, when the weight gets caught on a rock, the snap will hold on the big swivel.

Yea but if you fish big lead,you cast them off allot.But each to his own

I dont do this where there is no reef. Id rather risk casting off my lead than loosing a fish to a stuck weight. you loose some lead eather way, id prefer not to do it when a fish is on the line.

OK...let me tell you how we do it off Sunglow Pier up here in Daytona while fishing for shar....er....Baracuda! Most get a 12 oz. egg sinker, drill the hole out a little larger, and get stainless coathangers from Wall World. Cut the coathangers so that you can bend them, insert two bent in half through the eye of the egg sinker, and then bend them back as "spider" legs from the end of the sinker. Use at least a 480 lb snap swivel on the end of your 80-100 lb braid to attach to the "eye" formed on the reel side of the egg sinker apparatus. Sling it as far as you can. Then, take a rig with the leader...hook and bait on one end and similar heavy weight snap swivel on the other, attach the snap to your line, and start sliding it down into the water, lifting and "jiggling" the rod tip to get it further down the line. I've seen 10' sharks landed with this method. Best I've done was 6', but still waiting for the "big one". No problems. If there has been a breakoff, it's been at the knot or because there was a tail snap that broke the line. Haven't seen the connection between the snap swivel on the leader and the sinker end of the anchor rod fail yet.
