Boatless Fishing Forum, Reports, Info

My brother, his wife & son just took a flight this morning to DR to pursue a career he was offered. He'll be there roughly for a year or so. Unfortunately, when we used to live there back in 2002 we weren't into fishing, which is the only thing I regret when I lived there (4 a year). Anyways, they have a house in Santiago. He loaded up on like 7#s of sinkers, 100pk of hooks, 80 swivels, 3450 yrds of 20# test mono, #3 wire & so on.

Has anyone here saltwater fished from shore in DR before? ?
Are the tactics the same in comparison to the ones we use from shore here?
Are the species to be caught the same ones we target here?
Finally, is it safe to assume the fishing there is far better than here?

I was just in Santo Domingo and the waters looked promising. Rocky shores though. I saw lots of people fishing from land. There were a lot on the bridge there using sabikis to catch dinner. I would assume same species there as here. The boat fishing is good there but land fishing may br hard hit.

be carefull from land dont get rob i live there 30 years ago i used to live by el parque de los indios there were rocks big ones it was a pipe sticking out from a place where they kill cows so everything was chum there a lot of action that was 30 years ago.

I'll be sure to tell him to watch his back, I know how los tigres are there. What did you used to catch permitchaser? He stocked up on sabikis for bait, is the bait the same we use here?

bro i was a little kid i used to go without permit from my parents to watch los tigres fishing i remember one guy hook on a yoyo a big jack 40 plus and big arse shark cut that thing in half tell you brother to take rapalas jig etc go to a beach and work them .

Just like Bimini, you make friends when you give your catch away.

Your brother should have no problem finding a reliable area to find fish.
Tell him to keep a clear distance from the big city in the South.
Better to hang out with the locals and help feed the village.
Don't for get to remind him to bring plenty of buckets.
