Fort Pierce Jetty

Post by anas473 »

Another great day at the jetty yesterday. I had two surf rods out, one with cut mullet and another with a cut shrimp. Mostly caught bluefish and a few other things with the surf rods. Also hooked into a good 25+lb snook with a jighead. On a 17lb leader he went for a good 15min run straight to the beach and left me with a quarter of the spool. As I was finally getting him back after pumping in a third of the line the jig just popped out, no line frays or anything. Also, a few people were jigging for pompano and one of them left with four fair sized fish. I also saw a few flounder come up.

Nice report. That jetty is so hit or miss. Sounds like you have been doing well. :toast:

Idk Fishnfool, I've been on a solid streak with this jetty. I've always hooked up to quality fish from this jetty, I'm counting about six or more trips throughout the year so far.

I agree you have been on a hot streak. I have been there and torn up the snook solid but also been there and couldn't buy a hit. What ever you are doing keeo it up. If you didn't already know the secret the flounder and sheepshead really stack up there at certain times. Few know or target them.

Last Wednesday; Pompano, sheepshead, flounder, snook, a short grouper, bluefish and some small mangroves. Last Sunday; Jacks, flounder, mutton, mangroves, snook, and a barracuda. All in the morning, mostly off of shrimp and the bigger stuff was off the bottom with white baits.

Flounder, jacks, snook, spanish mackerels, and sun burn. White baits were swarming the jetty almost for the entire day.

The Other Ft Pierce Jetty?

I've read a ton about the south jetty in Ft Pierce, and have fished it several times at night with decent results. Just a bit to crowded for my taste.

This time of year I normally fish South Hutchinson Island with very good results. As everyone is aware last Friday the blue green crud invaded the inlet, and the beaches up to Jensen Beach at least. The rain isn't going to stop during the summer, and neither is the bacteria. Thursday I decided to take my act up north a bit.

I'm a member of the beautiful Ft Pierce Inlet State Park , but in all honesty haven't fished it seriously. Usually just use it as a place to take the family Sunday afternoon, have a cook out, let the kids swim on the beach, and do some light fishing on the inlet side.

Thursday I went up there and had a line in the water at 6 am, fished till 10 am. Didn't catch any snook, but all in all had a good day. Caught 7 good sized jacks, a shark, lost two hook up, and had several interesting hits. Busy fun morning.

The place looks, between the surf, the jetty, (fairly dangerous) and the beach on the inlet side, like a very fishy place. I've spent a few days researching the north side of the inlet on the net, and talking to a few people on the south jetty. Information on the North side is very difficult to come by.

IMO not that many people fish it, because of the cost to get in the park. If any one on here has fished the park, I would hope they would post any info they have on it on here. Think this is going to be my new home.

Thanks in advance
