dont remember what time i showed up but it was sometime before 10am at low tide.
saw huge schools of menhaden going by but they were out to far like say the hundred yard mark and further. some came in close and i believe i saw a school of mullet past the sandbar which was reachable.
oh yeah there were kingfish launching out of the water and sharks feeding in the bait school too. i had cut ladyfish so i dropped the bait as far as the bait pod is off the beach.
hooked up to some nice blacktips but all 4 got away.
maybe the circle hooks not doing the trick so next time it will be the j when i fish somewhere. i stopped using ladyfish and paddled out to snag some bait and used them to see if i can catch some kings.
no kings but i did catch a big Atlantic sharpnose that was 47"s total length and 20lbs.
after that i left as a huge storm came right up and ppl were sure darting to their cars real quick. overall the action was ok but not incredible.
not really a frenzy off the beach.
i guess it wasn't that day for it to be but still some surface busting action.

I'm still experimenting with hooks so take this advice with a grain of salt, but I hear that when it comes to circle hooks and sharks, bigger is better. Not so big that you obviously have more hook than bait but just a hook with a nice sized gap. Also there is no industry standard with circle hook sizes, so what is listed as a larger size may not actually be all that large. My fav so far has been an 11/0 super mutu by owner. That has had a very high hook up rate but it has an offset hangnail point so there's a better chance of gut hookin them.....but its still a much smaller chance than a j hook. Havent had a chance to try out those demon circles you recommended but ill let you know how they work for me (they're also 11/0)

there is always a pro and a con when it comes to C's and J's! the reason why i use the circles is because it doesn't usually get caught down deep in the throat and i can get the hook out alot of times. the con is that you can lose more sharks then a J.

the pro about the J is that you land more sharks with it but the con is that you dont usually get the hook back most of the time and even worse... the hook on J's can bend straight causing you too lose a fish. those are my experiences.

Have you tried the octopus hooks? round just like the circle without pointing inward.
