Playalinda Beach Thursday 01/10/13
Fished Playalinda Beach from 11:00-4:00 or so using cut shrimp and cut/whole dead fingerling mullet. Caught one blue and very small whiting. The "serious" pompano fishermen were set up next to me with their 14 foot poles and 5 ounce sputnik sinkers baited with fresh sandfleas they caught in the surf. They had some nice pompano and whiting but complained about the sharks cutting off their lines while reeling the fish in. The pompano are definitely biting but you have to have the right set up and patience to catch them. Saw several spinner sharks doing their acrobatics and one VERY large brownish fish/shark charging the water close enough to shore to give me pause about wading out.

I had several brief encounters over the couple years I have fished there. So brief it usually did not last more than 5 sec and I was always the one on the losing end. I never saw what ripped of my tackles but I also believed the big shark theory with some unanswered questions (why those biggies attack those small piece of baits such as sandflea, cut piece of shrimp or clam). It does make me think twice when I try to wade out during the low tide.
